Baby Basil. I was born on a chicken farm in north Georgia, on September 2, 1992. Someone once said I was the "runt" of the litter, whatever that means. My mother was called Princess, and my father's name was PuttPutt. I know, it's a silly name, but who has control over what they are named in this life?
The man who cared for my parents was called Bird. I don't know why, unless it was because he raised fighting birds. It's illegal almost everywhere, but he did it anyway. There were always hawks circling overhead....looking for chicks I guess. But we pups had to watch out for them too! Bird used to carry a big LOUD gun everywhere he went, and sometimes he'd shoot at those hawks. I think that's why I don't like thunder. Teen BellaBoo.
What a face! Anyway, when I was two weeks old (with my eyes still mostly shut) my humans came to see me for the first time. Of course, I couldn't see them, but that didn't matter. I knew right from the start that I was going to be happy with them. They chose me out of the whole litter, so they had to be intelligent, right? They came back to see me and play with me every two weeks. I really liked undoing their shoelaces when they weren't looking. My brothers and sisters also got to play with them. I figured I'd be generous and share. After all, I was going to have them all to myself forever. Then, when I was seven weeks old, they took me with them when they left. At first I was scared, but then nothing scares me for very long. We rode in their car for so long that I fell asleep. When I woke up, I was home. That's when I realized that I would have to share my humans with some other animals.
There was Gypsy (she's the oldest) and Max (he likes to hang out with dogs) and dB (boy, is he hairy....always getting hairballs). For a little while there was also Bebop, the ferret. But she was so old that I only got to play with her a few times. She had something called heart failure, and then she wasn't around any more. That made Gypsy really sad because, Mom said, they were sisters, 'tho I'm not sure how. One of the best things to ever happen to me was Bella. But I'll let her tell that story. I have to go run the yard now. You can never let up your guard...the squirrels are always waiting to dig up my grass. I'm the only thing that keeps Dad's yard from being torn to shreds!
